Who We Are
ACCS is the disabilities employment branch of Asotin County. We focus on connecting individuals with disabilities to local, competitive community employers. Our clients come to us on a referral basis from federal and state funding entities including Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Developmental Disabilities Administration, Foundational Community Supports.
What We Do
We build relationships with employers in Clarkston, Pullman, Pomeroy, Asotin and Lewiston, with the goal of providing qualified job candidates to fill open positions. There is never a cost to the employer for this service.
To ensure new hires are a good fit, employers may host a paid, 20-40 hour work-based experience. This gives the employer a chance to assess the job candidate’s suitability for the position and gives potential new employee a chance to try out the job before they are hired. Wages are paid by the referring agency, at no cost to the employer.
Often, a work-based experience leads to an offer of permanent work by the employer. If a permanent job is not offered, ACCS moves forward with the information needed find a new assessment location that is more compatible with the client’s strengths and preferences. This successful model puts a record number of individuals with disabilities to work, increasing their participation in the labor force and reducing reliance on public assistance. The right to work is a profound privilege and good for health and well being. It is a door flung open for all qualified individuals regardless of barrier or disability.
ACCS offers pre-transition employment training through Washington Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, while students are in high school. Pre-ETS activities include:
- Job Exploration Counseling.
- Paid Work-Based Learning Experiences.
- Counseling on Postsecondary Education Opportunities.
- Workplace Readiness Training.
- Instruction in Self-Advocacy.
ACCS works with high schools in Asotin and Garfield County to support students to that they graduate to jobs, trades schools, or other secondary education programs.
